In the year 2000 a group of people, members of Cambray Baptist Church in Cheltenham, were lured by two ex-Derby citizens on a day trip to Derbyshire where they walked the popular trail from Hartington to Thorpe Cloud.
Afterwards they all agreed it had been a good outing which should be repeated but the following year walking was prevented by an outbreak of foot and mouth disease so instead they visited Matlock’s Heights of Abraham and Haddon Hall
A walk the next year in Bradford and Lathkill dales established the tradition of the annual visit to the Peak District now known as “Derbyshire Discovery”.
The walks for 2020 and 2021 have been cancelled due to Covid 19
